The Université Lumière Lyon 2 is a multi-campus university with its headquarters set in the heart of France’s second biggest city. The University was created in 1973, as the result of a government-decreed split, but can trace its history back to the mid-nineteenth century. Boasting a strong tradition of quality research and the value of its teaching, Université Lumière Lyon 2 is amongst the largest universities of Social Sciences and Humanities in France. Based on 5 campuses, including 2 main sites, the Université Lumière Lyon 2 is home to nearly 30,000 students from undergraduate to doctoral level, 17% of whom come from overseas. It employs more than 2,000 staff, both faculty and administrative employees. Thirteen different faculties and institutes cover all of the relevant disciplines, from archaeology to computer technology, from languages to sociology, from journalism to psychology, law, business, economics and musicology, with many more besides. With 32 recognized research centres including 18 Unités mixtes de recherché (UMR – run in conjunction with the National Centre for Scientific Research, 1 National Human Sciences Centre (Maison des Sciences de l’Homme [MSH]), 8 research alliances and 7 doctoral schools, Lyon 2 has become a research and education institution of paramount importance. The university has strong ties to its local ecosystem and a substantial scientific international outlook and has 370 partner universities across 63 countries.
